Kwong Man Kee Group is proud to have contributed to the successful completion of the rooftop helipad at Queen Mary Hospital (QMH), supplying and applying a high-performance floor coating system tailored to the demanding requirements of this critical healthcare facility.
Project background
Queen Mary Hospital, serving as a Trauma and Transplant Centre, provides comprehensive medical services to the community. A rooftop helipad at QMH is vital to enable rapid transfer of patients and to deploy specialist medical teams quickly to emergency scenes. The new helipad, located on the roof of the hospital’s New Block, was designed in accordance with ICAO Standards for Heliport Design and the Government Flying Service Helicopter Landing Site Specification Guidelines.
Scope and requirements
Given the helipad’s operational role and rooftop location, the floor coating system needed to meet stringent performance criteria:
- Durable, impact- and abrasion-resistant surface able to withstand repeated helicopter landings and ground traffic.
- Excellent bond strength and resistance to delamination under varying weather and thermal conditions.
- Slip resistance for safe crew and patient movement in wet and oily conditions.
- Chemical and fuel spill resistance to ensure safety and simplify maintenance.
- UV stability and long-term color retention for clear visual markings and pad identification.
- Fast-curing and reliable application to meet tight project schedules and minimize disruption to hospital operations.
Our solution
We provided a purpose-designed, multi-layer coating system engineered for helipad applications. All materials and installation methods were specified and executed to meet project technical requirements and relevant aviation and safety guidelines. Our team worked closely with the project team and other stakeholders to coordinate access, ensure on-time delivery, and maintain site hygiene and safety throughout the works.
